This perennial vine, native to China, Japan and Taiwan, can grow anywhere from six to thirty feet in length.  Known in the Orient as the ‘Elixir of Life’, this famous root is China’s most renowned herb for longevity. The common name for Fo-Ti is Ho Shou Wu, named after the man that discovered the amazing benefits of this healing plant.

Ho Shou Wu translated in Chinese actually means Black Haired Mr. Ho. Legend has it that at 58 years old, Ho Shou Wu could not conceive a child. He was advised to take Fo-Ti Root and fathered many children.  Simultaneously, his hair turned from gray to black and his body looked youthful. The legend boasts he lived to be 160 years old.  Fo-Ti remains one of the most highly anti-aging and male health herbs in Chinese medicine.

Fo-Ti root has been used traditionally to support rejuvenation of the body. Fo-Ti Root has mild purgative and laxative qualities that may possibly support a healthy detoxification process.

Research shows that the emodin found in Fo-Ti Root may be very supportive to those suffering from autoimmune diseases.   Fo-ti is a natural source of zinc, iron and copper. Zinc plays important roles in growth and development, the immune response, neurological function, and reproduction.
